Job Title

Engineer — Memory Layout (Physical IP)

Role Summary

Design full-custom layouts for high-performance memory arrays and memory-related blocks in Arm's Physical IP – Memory group. Work on floorplanning, metal planning and layout techniques to optimize power, performance and area (PPA) for advanced process technologies.

Experience Level

Entry-level — 2+ years relevant layout design experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver complete physical layouts from planning through final verification, and support layout verification and reliability checks.

  • Implement full-custom layouts of arrays and memory blocks from schematics through final sign-off.
  • Floorplanning, metal planning and layout optimization to meet PPA and manufacturability targets.
  • Apply and interpret physical design rules for advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Perform custom layout and verification of complex memory cells and support layout reviews.
  • Run physical verification (DRC/LVS/DFM) using Calibre tools and resolve issues.
  • Conduct electro-migration and IR checks to validate reliability and integrity.

Requirements

Key technical must-haves and useful additional skills.

  • Must-have:
    • Hands-on experience with Cadence Virtuoso layout tools.
    • Practical experience with DRC/LVS/DFM verification and problem resolution (Calibre).
    • Knowledge of layout techniques to optimize power, speed and area for datapaths, bitcell arrays, wordline drivers and control blocks.
    • Ability to read and implement complex hierarchical schematics and debug LVS/DRC failures.
    • Experience with electro-migration and IR reliability checks; attention to detail and organized work practices.
  • Nice-to-have:
    • Experience with design-for-manufacture in advanced nodes (7nm/5nm/3nm/2nm).
    • Ability to discuss design tradeoffs with circuit designers.
    • Scripting/programming experience: Tcl, Perl, shell, Skill, Scheme.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent practical experience (degree field not specified in the posting).
