Thermal and Limits Management, Power Performance Senior Engineer

Role Summary

Responsible for analyzing and optimizing thermal behavior and peak current limits for Qualcomm products. Work within Systems Engineering to collaborate with architecture, power, design, and product test teams to ensure thermal and electrical reliability and performance.

Senior - typically requires 7+ years of relevant experience in power, thermal, and limits management.

Responsibilities

Deliver technical analysis, validation, and solutions for thermal and peak-current limits throughout product development.

  • Perform thermal analysis and component/system thermal design.
  • Analyze and optimize peak current limits and limits-management mechanisms.
  • Develop and execute test plans for thermal and electrical validation.
  • Model and simulate thermal behavior and current limits using simulation tools.
  • Characterize and profile power, thermal, and electrical specifications.
  • Debug system-level power and thermal performance issues; use power-performance tools for root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with architecture, platform, design, and test teams to integrate solutions.
  • Document technical findings and produce reports for design decisions.

Requirements

Essential technical skills and experience required for the role.

  • 7+ years experience in power, thermal, and limits management analysis, design, or optimization.
  • Understanding of power HW/SW and limits-management HW/SW architecture and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of power-grid and chipset architecture; experience with limits-throttling behavior, latencies, and performance impacts.
  • Hands-on experience with characterization, profiling, and measurement equipment for power and thermal testing.
  • Ability to debug complex power/thermal performance issues and propose HW/SW mitigation strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting complex performance data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with CPU/graphics/AI HW engines, thermal simulation tools (ANSYS, COMSOL), CAD, and thermal testing methodologies.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics & Communications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; PhD acceptable. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
