Senior System Software Engineer - Halos Core and Robotics Platform
Role Summary
Design and implement system software for NVIDIA Halos, a safety-focused edge AI platform for autonomous vehicles, humanoids, industrial robots, and intelligent machines. The role spans RTOS and rich OS environments, virtualization, device and platform software, and platform bring-up in collaboration with ASIC, firmware, safety, and security teams.
Work focuses on safety, security, performance, and reliability of mixed-criticality systems, using formal methods and AI-assisted engineering tools where appropriate.
Experience Level
Senior - typically requires 5+ years of system software architecture and development experience for real-time embedded systems.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and debug system software across QNX, Linux, and hypervisor-based environments.
- Develop BSP, boot, drivers, device-management, diagnostics, and platform software for NVIDIA SoCs and edge AI platforms.
- Design and implement I/O virtualization solutions for mixed-criticality systems.
- Develop safe and secure software compliant with automotive safety and security standards (ISO 26262, ISO 21434).
- Bring up and optimize next-generation platforms in coordination with ASIC, firmware, OS, safety, and security teams.
- Apply formal methods to architect and develop high-integrity software.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate debugging, testing, code review, and documentation.
- Design debugging, tracing, logging, and performance-analysis solutions to improve developer productivity.
- Troubleshoot complex cross-component issues across a large software stack.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers.
Requirements
Required technical skills and qualities:
- 5+ years of experience in system software architecture and development for real-time embedded systems.
- Strong understanding of computer architecture and operating system fundamentals.
- Strong programming and debugging skills in C and/or Ada/SPARK.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools for coding, debugging, testing, documentation, or workflow automation.
- Hands-on experience with debugging, performance analysis, and system analyzer tools.
- Proven ability to design and implement solutions for complex system-level problems.
- Effective collaborator with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with QNX, RT Linux, and other real-time operating systems.
- Low-level software experience for ARMv8-based SoCs.
- Prior hands-on Ada/SPARK programming including specification and formal verification; TLA+ modeling experience.
- Experience performing architectural safety analysis (FMEA/DFA) and threat modeling.
- Background in software development compliant with ISO 26262.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience as stated in the source posting.
