Job Title

Thermal Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

The engineer will drive thermal design and analysis for GPU, AI accelerator, and data center products using simulation and hands-on experimental methods. Work spans silicon, package, and platform levels to optimize thermal performance for high-performance computing products.

The role partners with silicon, packaging, and platform teams and with external ecosystem partners to ensure thermal compliance and performance.

Experience Level

Mid-level — requires 2+ years of relevant experience in thermal simulation and/or experimental validation.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include thermal design, experimental characterization, and cross-functional coordination.

  • Drive thermal design and analysis for GPU, AI accelerators, and data-center products across silicon, package, and system levels.
  • Support development of packaging thermal solutions and strategies for advanced packaging (chiplets, multi-chip modules).
  • Perform thermal, electrical, and mechanical co-design optimization.
  • Design and execute laboratory experiments to characterize package- and system-level cooling technologies.
  • Develop and apply thermal metrology techniques (e.g., for 2-phase cooling, microchannel heat spreaders) and correlate experimental data with simulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (silicon, packaging, platform) and engage external customers and partners to align thermal solutions with product requirements.

Requirements

Concise list of must-have and nice-to-have qualifications based on the posting.

  • Must-have: 2+ years experience with thermal simulation tools (e.g., CFD, FEA) and/or experimental validation.
  • Must-have: Solid understanding of heat transfer fundamentals and thermal management principles.
  • Must-have: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly in cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on laboratory experience building and operating thermal test equipment and instrumentation (thermocouples, IR cameras, flow meters, data acquisition systems).
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with advanced cooling technologies (immersion, 2-phase, microchannels), prototype development, and rapid testing.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with semiconductor or high-performance computing products and exposure to GPU/AI hardware thermal challenges.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with statistical analysis, experimental data processing, and power electronics concepts.

Education Requirements

PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Sciences, or a related field; OR MS in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Sciences, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant working experience.
