Testchip Design Engineer

Role Summary

Lead end-to-end testchip design and execution for advanced process nodes, owning schedule, quality, and delivery through Tape-In. This is a hands-on technical leadership role coordinating design rule validation, test structure design, layout execution, automation strategy, and cross-site integration.

Works with design, yield, process, and integration teams; eligible for a hybrid work model (split time on-site and off-site).

Experience Level

Senior-level. Posting requests 8+ years of hands-on layout and testchip experience and 5+ years of leadership experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties and expected accountabilities:

• Own end-to-end testchip execution and schedule across multiple component blocks through Tape-In.
• Interpret advanced design rules and runsets to define comprehensive test structure requirements and iterate with yield/process teams.
• Execute full-flow layout across cell heights and layers, from environment setup and layout design to DRC-clean sign-off with quality gates.
• Drive Testrow integration, including generation, fill, design checks, and signal plot verification, ensuring content check-in and health checks before Tape-In.
• Define and deploy automation and AI strategies for repetitive tasks (DRC runs, layout automation, validation, reporting).
• Serve as the technical interface for cross-site collaboration, aligning specifications, schedules, and priorities.
• Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, raising technical standards and execution practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted separately.

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in layout design, test structure development, and flow methodology, with DRC-clean sign-off experience on advanced nodes.
• Deep knowledge of advanced design rules and ability to convert runsets into test structure strategies.
• Solid understanding of the full testchip design flow from specification and layout through integration and Tape-In delivery.
• Proven scripting skills (Python, Tcl, Perl, or equivalent) and experience deploying automation; experience leveraging AI tools or agents for automation is required.
• 5+ years of experience leading and managing teams, including project tracking and cross-site stakeholder reporting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex technical content to technical and management audiences.
• Preferred: experience defining automation/AI strategy for layout and validation workflows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
