Test Operations Engineering Manager
Role Summary
Lead Test Operations engineering activities in Kulim, Malaysia to support Renesas product groups and cross-functional partners through all product lifecycle phases. The role manages offshore test operations engineers and subcontractors, oversees daily test operations with internal factories and OSATs, and drives capacity, yield, OEE and cost-reduction initiatives.
Experience Level
Senior — preferably more than 10 years' experience in high-volume semiconductor test manufacturing and engineering.
Responsibilities
Own test operations execution, team leadership, and continuous improvement to meet delivery and KPI targets.
- Lead, coach and develop a team of offshore Test Operations Engineers; set goals and manage performance.
- Manage daily test operations with internal factories and external test OSATs (lot tracking, dispositions, test program releases and debugging, hardware troubleshooting/repairs).
- Monitor equipment uptime and tester utilization (OEE); implement corrective actions and continuous improvement projects.
- Plan and execute new test capacity expansions (testers, handlers, hardware) and coordinate procurement with SCM, hardware engineering and vendors.
- Coordinate probe/final test transfers from NPI to high-volume manufacturing.
- Identify and deliver cost-savings and process optimization projects to meet annual targets.
- Produce performance reports, perform risk/problem analyses, and maintain structured communication with colleagues and suppliers.
Requirements
Key technical and leadership requirements.
- Must-have: >10 years' experience in high-volume semiconductor test manufacturing and engineering, including Probe/WLCSP and Final Test operations.
- Proven experience managing engineering teams and subcontractors in Malaysia or similar environments.
- Familiarity with test processes, test equipment operations and production planning concepts.
- Strong problem-solving skills (8D, Why-Why analysis) for process and manufacturing challenges.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex engineering projects from inception to completion, including risk assessment and cross-functional coordination.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional alignment and supplier management.
- Nice-to-have: Product knowledge of power-management test methodology; failure analysis and reliability testing experience; proficiency with statistical/data analysis tools (JMP, Spotfire).
Education Requirements
Minimum bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Computing or a related engineering discipline.
