Job Title

Test Hardware Engineer

Role Summary

Owner of maintenance, deployment, and lifecycle management for test hardware used in wafer sort and final test across OSAT partners. Works with OSAT and BU engineering to keep test tooling ready for NPI and production ramps.

Primary focus areas include probe cards, membrane core assemblies, hardware qualification, and driving standardized maintenance and documentation across Semtech test locations.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities and approximate time allocation:

  • Test hardware & membrane core maintenance: maintain, troubleshoot, and manage lifecycle of probe cards and membrane core assemblies used in wafer sort with OSATs; diagnose and resolve membrane core and probing issues to minimize downtime and yield impact (30%).
  • Test hardware deployment & qualification: support bring-up and qualification of new test hardware and fixtures for wafer sort and final test; collaborate with OSATs and BU engineering for NPI and production ramp readiness (20%).
  • Process & procedure standardization: develop and standardize maintenance procedures, work instructions, and best practices; drive consistent adoption across test locations (15%).
  • Hardware issue resolution & root cause analysis: act as on-site technical resource for hardware-related excursions; lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions with OSAT and BU teams (15%).
  • Spares, inventory & supplier coordination: manage spares inventory, repair/calibration cycles, and coordinate with suppliers and OSATs to ensure availability and reliability of critical test tooling (10%).
  • Documentation & knowledge transfer: create and maintain documentation, training materials, and knowledge-sharing resources to build capability in the Asia test engineering team (10%).

  • Must-have: Practical experience maintaining and troubleshooting probe cards, membrane cores, or similar test hardware used in wafer sort/final test.
  • Must-have: Experience coordinating with OSATs or external test partners during hardware deployment and production ramp.
  • Must-have: Skill in root-cause analysis for hardware-related failures and implementing corrective/preventive actions.
  • Must-have: Ability to develop standard maintenance procedures, work instructions, and documentation; deliver training and knowledge transfer.
  • Must-have: Inventory and spares management, including repair and calibration cycle oversight.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience qualifying test fixtures and bring-up for NPI; familiarity with wafer sort processes and test engineering workflows.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience working within multi-site test organizations and driving cross-site standardization.
