Silicon Engineer, Infrastructure Validation
Meta PlatformsJob Title
Silicon Engineer, Infrastructure Validation
Role Summary
Validate and bring up custom data-center ASICs across pre-silicon and post-silicon environments. Work on tests, diagnostics, kernel- and bare-metal-level frameworks, and automation that scale validation from lab prototypes to fleet deployments.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early Career - requires 2+ years of experience in ASIC or SoC development, validation, or first-silicon bring-up.
Responsibilities
Deliver functional validation, debug, and production-ready diagnostics for infrastructure silicon.
- Develop and execute functional validation plans across simulation, emulation, and silicon platforms.
- Write and maintain test cases, validation scripts, and automation (bare-metal and higher-level frameworks).
- Perform post-silicon bring-up and board/system-level debug of custom chips.
- Root-cause issues across silicon, firmware, driver, board, and test-setup layers using hardware debug tools and internal interfaces.
- Collaborate with RTL design, physical design, firmware, systems, and external partners to reproduce and resolve silicon bugs.
- Build and support validation infrastructure: diagnostics, regression suites, and analysis tooling that scale from lab to fleet.
- Characterize performance, power, and timing margins across process, voltage, and temperature corners and document findings and errata.
- Contribute to validation methodology and test plans for future silicon generations.
Requirements
Key technical skills and experience required and preferred.
- Must-have: 2+ years in ASIC/SoC development, validation, or first-silicon bring-up.
- Experience writing test cases or validation scripts in Python, C/C++, SystemVerilog, or similar languages.
- Hands-on hardware debug experience with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, JTAG, or protocol analyzers.
- Experience with post-silicon bring-up, board-level and system-level debug, and root-cause analysis.
- Proven collaboration with RTL/physical design, firmware, and systems teams to reproduce and resolve silicon issues.
- Familiarity with Linux, server systems management, and embedded bus protocols (I2C, SPI, USB, PCIe).
- Nice-to-have: experience with emulation/prototyping platforms, UVM and coverage closure, validating high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR, HBM, Ethernet, SerDes), DVFS/power-management validation, diagnostics frameworks, and silicon productization/manufacturing test.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field - or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining.
