Job Title
Test Engineer
Role Summary
Perform electrical and physical failure analysis (FA) on semiconductor devices to identify root causes for device anomalies, customer returns, and qualification failures. Work within a failure analysis lab supporting product and process teams to reduce risk and improve yield.
The position is laboratory-focused and collaborates with process owners, product teams, vendors, and cross-functional groups to implement corrective actions and FA workflow improvements.
Experience Level
Mid-level. No explicit years of experience stated; role expects laboratory FA competency and practical experience with semiconductor test/FA tools (internship or prior experience is a plus).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform electrical and physical failure analysis for device anomalies, customer returns, and qualification failures.
- Use advanced FA tools (FIB/EDX, SEM, ion millers, CSAM, 2D/3D X-ray, Emmi, micro-prober, bench testers) to isolate and characterize failures.
- Analyze test-data failures using Bash/Python scripting in a Unix environment.
- Interpret electrical signatures and physical defects to determine failure mechanisms and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with process owners, product teams, and vendors to drive corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and implement FA techniques to reduce turnaround time and improve accuracy.
- Drive continuous improvement and maintain FA workflow standards and +6S lab practices.
- Ensure compliance with lab safety protocols and proper chemical handling.
- Prepare detailed FA reports, maintain traceability records, and present findings to requestors and cross-functional teams.
- Provide technical guidance to FA technicians and manage workload distribution.
- Identify and apply automation, data analytics, and AI-enabled tools to optimize FA workflows and decision-making.
