Technology Development Engineering Intern — Power GaN (Summer 2027)

Role Summary

Internship on the Technology Development team focused on process and test development for semiconductor technologies at GF's 200mm manufacturing facility. The intern will support integration, qualification, experimentation, and cross-functional coordination to help mature 130nm, 90nm, and sub-90nm CMOS/SiGe/GaN technologies for RF and power applications.

Responsibilities

Work under mentorship to support technology development, qualification, and transfer activities. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with integration, process, test, and device engineers to integrate advanced process modules to meet performance, reliability, yield, and cost targets.
  • Support development of differentiated offerings in 130nm, 90nm, and sub-90nm nodes for CMOS, SiGe, and GaN targeting RF applications.
  • Plan and execute experiments; collect, analyze, and summarize inline and electrical measurement data for manufacturing capability and defect-level assessments.
  • Coordinate with testing, failure analysis, unit process, reliability, manufacturing, and research teams to drive program milestones from concept through manufacturing installation.
  • Perform work in compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

Minimal required skills and expectations for applicants.

  • Basic knowledge of modern semiconductor device physics and device characterization.
  • Basic understanding of semiconductor processing.
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to analyze experimental results and summarize measurement data.

Nice-to-have:

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in semiconductor or related fields.
  • Project management skills and ability to execute solutions in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Experience with semiconductor processing in CMOS, SiGe, and/or GaN for RF applications.
  • Experience with wafer-level electrical testing, analysis, and characterization.

Education Requirements

Undergraduate students (junior or graduating senior) in Electrical Engineering, Solid State Physics, Microelectronics, or other relevant engineering or physical science disciplines are expected. Master's or PhD students in semiconductor disciplines are mentioned as preferred candidates.
