Technology Development Engineer Intern — Silicon Photonics (Jan–Jun 2027)
Role Summary
Support Silicon Photonics Technology Development (TD) engineers in process development and device validation. Prepare process-flow documentation, summarize inline and test data (electrical and optical), and perform analysis to verify device performance within a project team and fabrication environment.
Experience Level
Internship (entry-level). Intended for students actively enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program; the role is a 16–24 week credit-bearing internship beginning January 2027.
Responsibilities
Work under guidance of TD Engineer or TD Senior Engineer to support process and device development.
- Fabricate and integrate Silicon Photonics process development following process documentation and operating instructions.
- Collaborate with project team members to ensure devices meet specifications and verify electrical and optical performance.
- Document and analyze inline measurements (e.g., thickness, critical dimension), and electrical and optical test data.
- Perform other duties as assigned; tasks may vary with project progress and goals.
- Adhere to Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Requirements
Logistical and competency requirements; preferred qualifications listed as nice-to-have.
- Must-have: In good academic standing.
- Must-have: Available to work at least 40 hours per week and commit to a 16–24 week credit-bearing internship commencing January 2027.
- Ability to follow detailed process documentation and operating instructions in a lab/fab environment.
- Nice-to-have: Prior related internship or co-op experience.
- Nice-to-have: Demonstrated leadership in school or project settings and basic project management skills.
- Nice-to-have: Interest in leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity.
- Nice-to-have: Strong self-motivation and interest in Silicon Photonics technology.
Education Requirements
Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Optical, Electrical, Semiconductor) or a related technical field through an accredited program; internship must be credit-bearing. Must be in good academic standing.
