Technical Staff Engineer - Signal Integrity
Role Summary
Senior signal-integrity engineer on the Mixed Signal Development Group responsible for electrical performance of device package and PCB designs for data center and optical communication processors.
Work includes SI and power-integrity analysis, developing SI flows, producing models, and collaborating with package, PCB and product teams. Annual base salary range: $133,000 - $183,000 (annual).
Experience Level
Senior - requires approximately 12+ years of signal-integrity design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership of signal and power integrity activities for package and PCB designs and supporting internal/external customers.
- Oversee signal and power integrity for device package designs.
- Collaborate with PCB, mixed-signal, product, and package teams to define SI requirements and electrical specifications.
- Develop and improve SI flows, processes, and simulation methodologies.
- Perform SI and power-system simulations of complex channels and packages; produce models for customers.
- Analyze and design PCB and package power distribution systems; review PCB/package designs.
- Model feasibility of future systems and prototype channels.
- Support lab measurements and correlate simulations with test data.
- Travel as required (0%β25%).
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- 12+ years experience in signal integrity design (or equivalent professional experience).
- Experience with field solvers such as HFSS, CST MWS, SIWave.
- Experience with circuit simulators such as ADS, Spectre, Hspice.
- Strong understanding of electromagnetic and transmission-line theory, I/O design, differential and single-ended interfaces, and signal integrity principles.
- Experience in PCB layout or electrical package design techniques.
- Familiarity with lab measurement equipment: oscilloscopes, TDR, Vector Network Analyzers, and correlation of measurements to simulations.
- Knowledge of IBIS and IBIS-AMI.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Nice-to-have: MATLAB, scripting (Perl, Python, SKILL), and Cadence design environment experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering minimum.
