Technical Staff Engineer - Firmware

Role Summary

Design, develop, unit test and verify firmware and related software for Switchtec System-on-Chip (SoC) PCIe switching products. Work within an agile, cross-site firmware and software team collaborating with chip design, emulation, validation, and applications engineering.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The posting requests at least 15 years of embedded application or high-level embedded software development experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, verification, cross-team integration, and customer-facing support for firmware and related software.

• Design, develop, integrate, debug, verify and validate firmware, device drivers, software components, unit test frameworks, and verification systems.
• Lead and participate in architecture, specification, design, and implementation reviews with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with chip design, emulation, validation, and application engineering on pre-silicon development and post-silicon bring-up, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Investigate and resolve issues found in lab or reported by customers in field environments.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, engineering documents, and customer-facing materials.
• Mentor and guide junior firmware engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and process improvements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for the role.

• At least 15 years of embedded application software or high-level embedded software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in C and experience with at least one assembly language.
• Expertise in SoC firmware, RTOS, multi-threading, and SMP firmware development.
• Experience with one or more high-speed protocol product developments: PCIe, CXL, InfiniBand, SAS/SATA, NVMe, Ethernet, or Fibre Channel.
• Experience in firmware design for silicon products and working across emulation, validation, and applications teams during pre- and post-silicon phases.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, resourceful, quality-focused, and able to work with minimal supervision.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience leveraging AI to assist firmware and software development.
• Proven ability to lead cross-site teams on complex firmware projects.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
