Senior SoC Design Engineer
MicrochipJob Title
Senior SoC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Join Microchip's Data Center Solutions (DCS) business unit to design complex digital integrated circuits for storage and data-center products (SAS/PCIe/NVMe/CXL). The role contributes to block, subsystem and device-level RTL design, emulation and ASIC lab validation, and works with cross-functional teams to deliver silicon.
Experience Level
Senior role. The posting specifies 3β5 years of related experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include design, validation, and cross-team coordination for SoC/IP blocks.
- Design RTL for complex digital blocks and subsystems (coded in SystemVerilog/Verilog) targeting 100Kβ50M+ gates.
- Define subsystem/block features and document design and register specifications.
- Support emulation and ASIC lab validation: debug silicon, implement logic fixes and workarounds.
- Collaborate with verification, physical design, and architecture teams to resolve issues and justify design trade-offs.
- Read and apply storage and computer interface protocol standards relevant to the design.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items noted.
- Must-have: RTL design experience using SystemVerilog and Verilog.
- Must-have: Practical knowledge of ASIC design flows: block/chip simulation and debug, logic synthesis, static timing analysis, and interaction with physical design teams.
- Must-have: Experience with common EDA/verification tools (e.g., synthesis, simulators, waveform viewers).
- Must-have: Strong analytical and debugging skills; effective written and verbal communication in English.
- Nice-to-have: Formal verification experience.
- Nice-to-have: Scripting/programming experience (bash, csh, perl, python, tcl) for automation and debug.
- Nice-to-have: Protocol experience such as PCI Express; familiarity with AHB/AXI is desired.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with low-power methodologies and layout implementation coordination.
- Ability to work independently and in distributed teams; time management and teamwork skills.
- Travel: up to 25%.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a closely related technical field β or equivalent practical experience.
