Technical Staff Engineer - Design
MicrochipJob Title
Technical Staff Engineer - Design
Role Summary
Responsible for digital SoC design for low-power, high-performance wireless systems within the Wireless Solutions Group. The role covers RTL implementation through tape-out and requires collaboration with verification, analog, validation and software teams.
Works with international design teams and external vendors to meet functional, timing and power targets.
Experience Level
Senior level - minimum 12+ years of digital SoC design experience, with emphasis on low-power design.
Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end SoC design activities and cross-functional integration.
- Implement RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) per micro-architecture and design specifications.
- Perform synthesis, create timing constraints (SDC), and conduct timing analysis and closure.
- Execute ASIC/SoC design flow activities including LINT, Formal checks, CDC/RDC and power estimation.
- Coordinate with physical design teams to ensure successful integration and implementation.
- Collaborate with verification teams to satisfy test plans and verification requirements.
- Support silicon validation and debug with validation and software engineers.
- Develop and optimize low-power design techniques and power estimation methodologies.
- Integrate peripheral IP (USB, Ethernet, I2C, SPI) and bus protocols (AMBA/AXI); work on bus matrix designs.
- Interface with external IP vendors and third parties to resolve design issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted.
- 12+ years hands-on digital SoC design experience focused on low-power design.
- Proficient in RTL design using Verilog/SystemVerilog.
- Experience with synthesis flows, timing constraints (SDC) and timing analysis.
- Familiarity with ASIC flow elements: LINT, Formal, CDC/RDC, power estimation, MBIST/DFT.
- Strong understanding of SoC architecture (ARM/MIPS), AMBA/AXI bus protocols and peripheral IP integration.
- Experience with bus matrix design and integration.
- Scripting skills for automation (TCL, Perl, Python).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and English communication skills; able to work across sites.
- Nice-to-have: experience with verification methodologies (UVM/OVM) and validation/debug on FPGA or silicon boards.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field required. Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
