Technical Staff - Design Engineering
Role Summary
Lead architecture and provide technical leadership for communication semiconductor devices and subsystems within the Communications Business Unit (CBU) Product Development team. Deliver and mentor across block, subsystem and top-level design through the full device R&D cycle from concept to production release.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Recommended 12+ years of related experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include system architecture, hands-on RTL design, technical leadership, and cross-functional delivery of production-ready devices.
- Define or contribute to device and subsystem architecture; translate product requirements into datapaths and partitions.
- Design micro-architecture and implement RTL in SystemVerilog, applying low-power design principles.
- Supervise and mentor a small team of design engineers; act as architect, designer or team leader for digital IC projects.
- Collaborate with product marketing, applications, verification, synthesis, physical design/layout, validation and production teams to ensure integration and manufacturability.
- Participate in feasibility studies and next-generation product planning; contribute to domain expertise and industry standards.
- Ensure high-quality results through partnership with verification leads and physical design teams.
Requirements
Key technical qualifications and experience.
- Must-have: Strong expertise in SystemVerilog RTL design and micro‑architecture development.
- Deep hands-on experience with lint, CDC, formal verification, logic synthesis, and static timing analysis (STA).
- Strong understanding of physical design interactions including timing, power and congestion.
- Solid experience with low-power design methodologies and flows.
- In-depth knowledge of DFT, including scan and testability and DFT sign-off interactions.
- Proficiency in scripting (Tcl, Perl and/or Awk) for design automation and flows.
- Excellent analytical and debugging skills with proactive problem-solving ability.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.
- Nice-to-have / assets: Experience with Synopsys or Cadence tool flows for synthesis, verification or STA; experience with 28nm and smaller process technologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering.
