Role Summary

Lead the Digital Space Technology (DST) engineering department responsible for digital electronics, FPGA, ASIC, board and unit development for space systems. Manage technical health, staffing, strategic planning, and delivery of mission-critical digital hardware across programs.

Experience Level

Senior - requires extensive experience: typically 8+ years in engineering and a minimum of 5 years managing large engineering teams.

Responsibilities

The manager is accountable for technical leadership, people development, program execution support, and advancing engineering capabilities.

  • Lead and develop a department of over 100 engineers in digital electronics, FPGA, ASIC, and embedded hardware.
  • Establish and execute workforce staffing, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Partner with program leadership to meet cost, schedule, and technical baselines.
  • Drive technical excellence and engineering rigor across digital hardware, FPGA, ASIC, board and unit development.
  • Develop and maintain skill roadmaps to meet current and future business needs.
  • Support business growth via proposal development, customer engagement, and strategic capture.
  • Foster innovation through investment planning, technology maturation, and transitioning R&D into flight products.
  • Build an inclusive, collaborative, high-performing culture focused on employee engagement and leadership development.
  • Coordinate across engineering disciplines, sites, and manufacturing to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Champion engineering productivity, digital transformation, and adoption of advanced design methodologies and tools.

Requirements

Must-have technical and management qualifications. Preferred items are listed separately.

  • 8+ years of engineering experience supporting complex aerospace, defense, or space programs through development, integration, test, and production.
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated leadership managing large engineering organizations or technical teams.
  • Experience in program execution including cost, schedule, technical performance, risk management, and earned value management (EVM).
  • Strong background in digital electronics, FPGA, ASIC, and embedded systems.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational change, talent development, and workforce planning initiatives.
  • Experience with proposal development, business growth, and customer engagement activities.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.
  • Nice-to-have: experience leading managers and multi-disciplinary organizations larger than 100 personnel.
  • Nice-to-have: prior experience with space systems, satellite payloads, spacecraft electronics, or space-qualified digital hardware.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with design, development, integration, and test of FPGA, ASIC, or microelectronics products.
  • Nice-to-have: active TS/SCI with SSBI clearance.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor of Science in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math). Preferred: M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
