Job Title
Technical Director, Digital IP Design and IP Architect
Role Summary
Lead hands-on design, architecture, and verification of digital IP used across NXP MCU/MPU products. The role focuses on legacy and new peripheral IP (memory controllers, bus bridges, boot/clock/reset, etc.), pre- and post-silicon debug, and cross-functional collaboration with SoC, systems, and software teams.
Experience Level
Senior — this role targets an experienced technical leader; candidates with ~20+ years of digital IC/IP design experience are preferred.
Responsibilities
Deliver technical leadership, hands-on design and verification, and cross-team support for digital IP across product generations.
- Ramp up and maintain legacy and new digital IP across the MCU/MPU portfolio; implement change requests and fixes.
- Design and lead architecture specifications for NOR/PSRAM/NAND flash controllers and related peripherals.
- Implement and verify RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) and lead verification activities; use EDA flows for synthesis and STA.
- Provide pre-silicon and post-silicon debug and validation support, including firmware and software interfacing.
- Collaborate with global SoC, systems, and software teams to meet product requirements and integration goals.
- Model and evaluate ECC algorithms (BCH, Reed‑Solomon, LDPC) and storage reliability techniques as needed.
- Create detailed design documentation, specifications, and programming guides for software teams.
- Drive continuous improvement of design and verification processes and mentor engineering teams.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required for successful performance in this role.
-
Must-have: Proven track record building and supporting digital IP across multiple SoC generations, including post-silicon debug and software support.
-
Must-have: Hands-on RTL design and verification expertise in Verilog/SystemVerilog; strong digital design fundamentals.
-
Must-have: Deep knowledge of AHB and AXI bus protocols, microprocessor architecture, and ARM M-class core experience.
-
Must-have: Experience with peripheral controllers (NOR/PSRAM/NAND, eMMC/SD, USB) and firmware-level interaction for those IPs.
-
Must-have: Understanding of ECC concepts and experience applying ECC in storage controllers.
-
Must-have: Familiarity with low-power design techniques and constraints.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with EDA verification tools, synthesis flows, and static timing analysis (STA).
-
Nice-to-have: Prior work authoring IP architecture/specification documents and programming guides.
-
Nice-to-have: Strong debugging, analytical, and communication skills; ability to lead technical discussions and work independently.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
