Job Title

Tech IP Library Characterization Engineer

Role Summary

Join the TECHIP team to characterize standard-cell and memory IPs, develop automation for large-scale characterization flows, and support sign-off methodologies. The role focuses on IP modeling (Liberty, CCS, LVF), EDA tool automation, data analysis and visualization, and cross-site collaboration with foundries and EDA vendors.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” typically 0–3 years of relevant experience in library characterization, custom circuit design, CAD flow development, or related VLSI work.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include delivering characterization data, automation, and validation for foundation IPs.

  • Characterize standard-cell and memory IP for timing, power, and reliability using Liberty and SPICE-based models.
  • Develop and maintain large-scale automation scripts and flows (Python/Perl) on UNIX/Linux platforms.
  • Automate and validate EDA tool runs for characterization, STA, and power analysis.
  • Analyze and visualize characterization data; provide debugging and root-cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with multi-site teams, third-party vendors, foundries, and EDA houses to validate models and flows.
  • Contribute to design kit delivery and sign-off methodology documentation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience. Preferred items are listed separately.

  • Strong knowledge of standard-cell and memory circuits and practical IP characterization experience.
  • Proven experience with EDA tool automation and large-scale flow development.
  • Proficient in Python (data analytics) and/or Perl on UNIX/Linux; strong scripting and software automation skills.
  • Good understanding of Liberty timing formats, power modeling, and front-end Verilog views.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills; effective communicator and team player.
  • Ability to work across sites and with external vendors to drive tool and flow improvements.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with CMOS/FinFET device characteristics, advanced Liberty formats (CCS, LVF), statistical variation models, RTL/Verilog/SystemVerilog, STA, physical design, SPICE simulation, and DRC/LVS procedures.

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. Preferred: Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science. Minimum-qualification alternatives in the source allow: Bachelor's + 2+ years of ASIC-related experience, Master's + 1+ year, or a PhD in a related field. Equivalent practical experience is accepted where stated.
