Tapeout & Mask Operations Engineer (2027 New College Graduate)

Role Summary

The Tapeout & Mask Operations Engineer will support semiconductor tapeout and mask operations by developing automation, analytics, and cloud-based solutions to improve operational efficiency and customer outcomes. The role partners with product lines, fabs, EDA vendors, cloud providers, and IT to modernize tapeout workflows and enable measurable business improvements.

Experience Level

Entry-level — New college graduate (expected graduation in 2027).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on enabling scalable EDA functions, building automation and analytics, and supporting customer tapeout and mask manufacturing activities.

  • Support and enable cloud-based Electronic Design Automation (EDA) workflows.
  • Design and implement applications and automation to streamline tapeout processes.
  • Create dashboards, visualizations, and reports to convert EDA outputs into actionable insights.
  • Analyze tapeout operations KPIs to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Support customer tapeouts, mask manufacturing operations, and wafer start enablement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to standardize processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies, including AI/ML and cloud services, for future transformation efforts.
  • Perform work in a safe manner and comply with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS&S) requirements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; preferred items listed after.

  • Experience developing automation, analytics, or process-improvement solutions using technologies such as Python, Angular, Amazon QuickSight, and Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases and data processing concepts.
  • Understanding of cloud-based application development and platform services for scalable solutions.
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle and tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO), Jira, Git, Jenkins, and Bamboo.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice-to-have

  • Previous internship, co-op, research, or relevant industry experience.
  • Leadership experience from academic projects, student organizations, competitions, volunteer activities, or work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver results.
  • Exposure to semiconductor manufacturing, foundry operations, or EDA workflows.
  • Experience or interest in AI/ML applications and AWS services.
  • Self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution; expected graduation in 2027. Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 required.
