Job Title

Tapeout Engineer

Role Summary

Work on TI's Advanced Technology Development (ATD) Mask Technology and Pattern Generation (MTPG) team to support mask building, reticle generation, scribe array and layout generation and verification for product and test chips. Responsible for mask data preparation, reticle floorplan databases, automation, and ensuring timely, high-quality tapeout deliveries.

Mid-level β€” expects approximately 2–5 years of hardware engineering or related experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include mask data preparation, tapeout support, and process automation:

  • Convert product and test chip layouts (LAFF, GDS) into fracture/fracture data for mask production.
  • Prepare mask orders, validate data, and manage archival and data integrity.
  • Generate reticle floorplan databases and scribe arrays.
  • Develop and maintain automation and scripts for PG/tapeout workflows.
  • Collaborate with process development, PDK, EDA, and product teams to complete PG processes.
  • Ensure consistent application of methodologies and best practices to meet cycle-time and quality targets.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Practical understanding of layout and semiconductor fabrication fundamentals (FEOL/BEOL).
  • Experience with mask data and layout tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Pegasus (DesignRev), and Mentor Calibre.
  • Hands-on experience in mask data preparation, reticle floorplanning, or tapeout support.
  • Ability to create automations and scripts to improve tapeout processes.
  • Strong focus on cycle time, data integrity, quality, and effective cross-team communication.

Nice-to-have: experience with PDK development, EDA flow integration, or additional mask/reticle tool expertise.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related field. The posting specifies 2–5 years of hardware engineering or related work experience.
