Job Title

Tapeout Engineer

Role Summary

Position on the Advanced Technology Development (ATD) Mask Technology and Pattern Generation (MTPG) team. Responsible for mask data preparation, reticle and floorplan generation, and maintaining data integrity to support product and test-chip tapeout processes.

The role partners with process development, PDK, EDA, and business teams to ensure timely, high-quality pattern generation and tapeout delivery.

Experience Level

Entry-level β€” 0–2 years of relevant hardware engineering or related experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include converting layouts to mask/fracture data, preparing mask orders, driving automation, and ensuring consistent methodologies.

  • Convert product and test-chip layouts (LAFF, GDS) into fracture/mask data.
  • Prepare mask orders, manage data integrity, archival, and coordinate shipments to vendors.
  • Generate reticle floorplan databases and scribe arrays.
  • Design and implement automation to improve the pattern generation/tapeout workflow.
  • Collaborate with process development, PDK, EDA, and business units to gather required information for PG processes.
  • Apply and enforce methodologies and best practices to maintain cycle time and quality.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and expectations:

  • Understanding of layout and basic semiconductor fabrication processes (FEOL/BEOL).
  • Knowledge of mask data and pattern generation tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Pegasus designrev, and Mentor calibredrv.
  • Maintain high standards for cycle time, quality, and attention to data integrity.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, or a related technical field. 0–2 years of hardware engineering or related work experience is expected.
