Systems Software Engineer – Sensors (UX Frontend Focus)
QualcommJob Title
Systems Software Engineer – Sensors (UX Frontend Focus)
Role Summary
Develop and maintain software tools and user interfaces that support sensor technology research, development, validation, and deployment across consumer and embedded devices.
Work with systems, software, integration and test engineers in the Sensors Technologies team to design intuitive frontends, integrate them with backend data-processing services, and support end-to-end engineering workflows from R&D to commercial release.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career. Typical experience described: 1–2+ years relevant engineering or ASIC-related experience (see Education Requirements for degree/experience combinations).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development of frontend tools, integration with backend services, and support of sensor engineering workflows.
- Develop software tools and UX frontends for sensor research, validation, and engineering workflows.
- Implement data visualization interfaces and dashboards to support engineering analysis and decision making.
- Integrate frontend components with backend data-processing services and manage inter-language data exchange.
- Architect and implement software frameworks using MVC, event-driven, and component-based patterns across multiple platforms.
- Write and maintain code primarily in MATLAB and Python; apply and interface with C/C++ where required.
- Apply unit and system testing practices (e.g., Google Test) and produce complete documentation.
- Balance tradeoffs among performance, memory, power consumption, and computational complexity in tool implementations.
- Support SOC hardware modeling, technology demonstrations, and engagements with customers and sensor vendors.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.
- Must-have: Practical experience with MATLAB and Python for tool development and data processing; familiarity with modern C/C++ standards.
- Must-have: Experience building user interfaces and data visualizations for engineering use.
- Must-have: Experience integrating frontend and backend components and managing data exchange across tool layers.
- Must-have: Working knowledge of software design patterns (MVC, event-driven), object-oriented programming, and unit/system testing frameworks.
- Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to documentation and detail.
- Must-have: Experience in ASIC design, verification, validation, integration, or related engineering work (see Education Requirements for acceptable experience/degree combinations).
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with compiler/interpreter/toolchain development.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with hardware architectures (CPU, GPU, NPU) and SoC architecture; experience with SOC hardware models.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with RTOS and modifying device drivers.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field plus 2+ years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration or related experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 1+ year of relevant experience; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or related field. Applications with equivalent practical experience will be considered.
