Systems Software Engineer, CPU Manageability Stack

Role Summary

The Chips System Software team designs and implements boot firmware and the CPU manageability software stack for Tegra-based platforms used in automotive, datacenter, and embedded systems. This role develops embedded bare-metal and Linux kernel components, integrates server management functionality, and collaborates with hardware and platform teams to improve system performance and reliability.

Experience Level

Mid-level (5+ years of professional experience).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, development, integration, and documentation of manageability and firmware components.

  • Develop and maintain the CPU manageability software stack and boot firmware for Tegra platforms.
  • Implement embedded bare-metal code and connect it to server management protocols and standards.
  • Design and maintain Linux kernel components and device drivers; perform system-level debugging and tuning.
  • Collaborate with hardware architecture teams to improve cross-generation performance and compatibility.
  • Document designs, communicate technical decisions, and coordinate with internal and external partners.

Requirements

Core skills and experience required or strongly preferred.

  • Must-have: Expert-level C programming and strong Python skills.
  • Must-have: Detailed and extensive experience with Linux kernel development (drivers, kernel internals).
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of multicore hardware, concurrency, virtual memory, caching, interrupts, and real-time programming.
  • Must-have: Experience with operating systems and kernel programming; strong system-level debugging skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with server management protocols such as IPMI, MCTP, and PLDM.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with OpenBMC, virtualization platforms (KVM, QEMU), or system performance analysis and tuning.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Education Requirements

BS or MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. The posting indicates 5+ years of professional experience is expected.
