Systems SERDES Engineer, Senior Staff
QualcommJob Title
Systems SERDES Engineer, Senior Staff
Role Summary
Work on ASIC SERDES behavior, modeling, simulation and system-level validation as part of the ASIC engineering team in Toronto. The role focuses on defining SERDES architecture, building behavioral models and tools, and correlating model results with silicon performance.
Experience Level
Senior — hiring guidelines indicate 6+ years with a Bachelor’s, 5+ years with a Master’s, or 4+ years with a PhD in relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include behavioral channel simulation, block modeling, tool development, and system performance correlation.
- Run behavioral channel simulation and analysis of high-speed wireline analog/DSP SERDES (100G+ PAM4).
- Model critical analog/DSP SERDES blocks: transmitter, FFE, CTLE, DFE, and CDRs.
- Contribute to architecture definition for SERDES links across standards.
- Develop and deploy tools to accelerate analog validation, design and debug workflows.
- Apply optimization and machine-learning methods for chip and link optimization.
- Develop adaptation algorithms for equalization techniques; perform sensitivity and regression analyses.
- Collaborate with silicon engineering teams to correlate behavioral models with silicon performance.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution.
- 5+ years experience modeling SERDES blocks (Transmitter, FFE, CTLE, DFE, CDR) or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong programming skills in MATLAB and C/C++; scripting experience in Python, Tcl or Perl.
- Experience with PCIe and/or Ethernet SerDes specifications.
- Experience developing tools or automation for analog/validation teams.
- Strong analytical, debugging and communication skills; attention to detail.
Nice-to-have:
- IBIS-AMI modeling experience.
- Familiarity with PCI-SIG, IEEE 802.3 and OIF standards.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience. The posting indicates hiring guidelines of: Bachelor's +6+ years, Master's +5+ years, or PhD +4+ years of relevant ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience.
