Job Title

Systems Engineer - Staff

Role Summary

Join the QUALCOMM Location Systems Team to design, model, implement and validate GNSS-based location and navigation subsystems, with emphasis on the Measurement Engine / physical layer of GNSS receivers. The role supports prototype and product verification across hardware, firmware, software and RF teams.

Experience Level

Senior-level (Staff). See Education Requirements for the position's years-of-experience guidance tied to degree level.

Responsibilities

The role is responsible for designing and validating GNSS receiver measurement subsystems and supporting cross-functional prototype and product verification.

  • Design signal-processing algorithms for acquisition, tracking and measuring GNSS signals.
  • Model, simulate and verify Measurement Engine sub-systems for pre-product and final product designs.
  • Support hardware, firmware, software and RF teams during prototype and product verification.
  • Provide system-level support for debugging and performance optimization.
  • Drive technical issue resolution across cross-functional teams and escalate when appropriate.
  • Apply advanced problem solving for complex receiver subsystems (RF, HW, FW).
  • Leverage AI tools to improve and automate parts of the system design workflow.

Requirements

Candidate must demonstrate practical systems engineering skills, familiarity with simulation and implementation toolchains, and the ability to work across hardware/software/RF disciplines.

  • Practical systems engineering experience and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools and workflows.
  • Software skills: C/C++, Python, MATLAB (or equivalent simulation languages).
  • Experience debugging and optimizing system performance across HW/FW/SW boundaries.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: knowledge of GNSS systems and receiver design.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with tracking loops, demodulation and decoding algorithms.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with digital hardware / RTL concepts and fixed-point modeling for hardware verification.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with machine learning algorithm design and using AI tools in system design.

Education Requirements

One of the following: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field plus 4+ years of systems engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 3+ years of related experience; OR PhD in those fields plus 2+ years of related experience.
