Job Title
Systems Engineer (SEM)
Role Summary
The Systems Engineer will engage with customers and internal teams to deliver system-level solutions and reference designs for medical-grade wearable and sensor applications. The role spans hardware, analog/mixed-signal signal-chain design, embedded firmware/SoC integration, edge-AI inference, and wireless connectivity.
Work focuses on producing validated reference designs, technical documentation, and enabling sales and product teams for medical and health-monitoring devices.
Experience Level
Mid-level — requires 3+ years of relevant hands-on experience in hardware and system design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include delivering reference designs, validating boards, and collaborating with customers and cross-functional teams.
- Capture schematics, perform PCB layout, and execute board-level validation (signal integrity, EMC, power integrity) for reference designs.
- Design end-to-end analog/mixed-signal signal chains (amplifiers, filters, ADC/DAC, isolation) to meet medical-grade performance targets.
- Implement SoC/MCU firmware, driver stacks, and lightweight AI inference engines for edge-AI on wearable devices; optimize for power, memory, and latency.
- Engineer low-power wireless connectivity solutions (Bluetooth, BLE, Wi‑Fi, Thread) for telemetry and remote monitoring.
- Author application notes, reference-design guides, and technical documentation detailing design intent, test methodology, and performance data.
- Work directly with OEM design engineers, field teams, and product managers to assess requirements, troubleshoot designs, and deliver solutions.
- Identify market trends and propose new reference-design opportunities; provide technical enablement for sales and partners.
- Coordinate across analog, RF, digital, firmware, AI, reliability, and regulatory teams to prepare designs for production hand-off.
- Manage design cycles from concept through validation with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks to meet schedules.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in hardware design: schematic capture, PCB layout, and board validation.
- Proven expertise in analog/mixed-signal signal-chain design for sensor-based applications.
- Experience integrating SoC/MCU platforms and developing firmware/driver code.
- Demonstrated ability to design and validate wireless connectivity (Bluetooth, BLE, Wi‑Fi, etc.).
- Strong technical writing experience with published application notes, white papers, or similar documentation.
- Ability to work independently and manage full design cycles to production hand-off.
Preferred / nice-to-have:
- Direct experience in the medical or healthcare device market and familiarity with relevant regulatory standards.
- Edge-AI experience deploying inference on low-power wearables (TinyML, TensorFlow Lite Micro, ONNX Runtime for MCUs) and optimizing models for latency, power, and memory.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration, presentation, and training skills.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Preferred: Advanced degree (M.S.) in a relevant engineering discipline; the posting also lists "Degree Level: Master's Degree."
