Software Engineer, CAD Automation

Role Summary

Develop automation, tools, and flows that increase productivity and robustness of custom VLSI circuit designs. Work within the CAD/EDA team and cross-functional engineering groups to support pre-silicon and post-silicon design and verification workflows.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects around 3+ years of experience in VLSI CAD flows and methodology.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include:

  • Design, implement, and maintain CAD automation tools, scripts, and flows for VLSI design and verification.
  • Automate routine design tasks to improve engineer productivity and reduce manual errors.
  • Integrate and build methodology around vendor EDA tools and design collateral to streamline workflows.
  • Support and troubleshoot existing development infrastructure; propose and implement improvements.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams (design, verification, tooling) to ensure robust designs across product lines.
  • Apply software engineering best practices to build scalable, maintainable systems.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

  • 3+ years of practical experience with VLSI CAD flows and methodology.
  • Hands-on VLSI design experience and familiarity with chip design flows.
  • Strong programming and scripting skills (examples: C++, Python, Tcl, Makefile or similar).
  • Experience integrating and automating EDA tools and managing tool flows.
  • Strong problem-solving, proactive mindset, and effective communication skills for cross-team work.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with design collateral formats (e.g., .v, .gv, .lib, GDS).
  • Technical presentation skills and experience working across organizational levels.

Education Requirements

MS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (or equivalent practical experience); PhD preferred. Related technical fields or equivalent experience are acceptable.
