Systems Engineer
Allegro MicroSystemsJob Title
Systems Engineer
Role Summary
The Systems Engineer will define, model, and evaluate magnetic sensing integrated circuits (ICs). You will translate system-level customer requirements into hardware specifications, build behavioral models, and perform hands-on lab validation of silicon while collaborating with IC design, applications, test, and product teams.
Work supports consumer, industrial, and automotive sensing and motor-control applications.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early-career - 0 to 3 years of relevant academic or industry experience (relevant internships or co-ops valued).
Responsibilities
Support system requirements, modeling, lab characterization, and cross-functional alignment throughout the product lifecycle.
- Translate customer use cases, application notes, and standards into IC-level electrical and functional requirements.
- Develop and run behavioral simulations with MATLAB, Simulink, or Python to analyze magnetic behavior, sensor noise, and mixed-signal processing paths.
- Maintain requirements and verification traceability using requirements-management tools (e.g., Jama Connect).
- Set up lab testbenches and validate silicon performance against system requirements across operating conditions.
- Characterize system behavior and produce validation summary reports.
- Create technical collateral: datasheets, application notes, and design calculation tools.
- Coordinate with Analog/Digital IC Design, Test Engineering, Applications, and Marketing to align product deliverables.
Requirements
Required skills and preferred qualifications.
Must-have- Proficiency with numerical modeling and simulation in MATLAB, Simulink, or Python.
- Foundational knowledge of analog circuits, digital logic, signal processing, and feedback/control systems.
- Hands-on experience with standard electrical lab equipment (oscilloscope, power supply, function generator, multimeter) from coursework, projects, or internships.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Eligible to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship (the company will not sponsor visas for this position).
- Internship or project experience in semiconductor, automotive electronics, or motor-control industries.
- Exposure to serial automotive/sensor protocols (SPI, I2C, SENT, CAN, PWM).
- Familiarity with functional safety concepts (ISO 26262) or requirements-management systems.
- Basic PCB design or automated test-setup experience (Altium, KiCad, MATLAB-based test automation, Python scripting).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field. Relevant internships or co-op experience are strongly valued.
