Job Title

Systems and Validation Lead/Manager

Role Summary

Lead a systems validation and characterization team responsible for qualification of electrical interfaces and standards-based protocol testing for automotive and space-focused silicon products. The role covers lab setup and management, board and test design, pre-silicon FPGA emulation, silicon validation, and cross-functional coordination to release products to production.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 8+ years of systems hardware development and debug experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for planning and executing validation, qualification, and characterization activities and for leading a team of systems engineers.

  • Lead and mentor validation/characterization engineers focused on product qualification and production readiness.
  • Design characterization, system-level, and demonstration platforms (requirements, schematics, PCB layout, mechanical integration) including MCU, discrete logic, FPGA, multi-gigabit, and analog circuitry.
  • Create and execute test plans for signal integrity, RF, electrical, thermal, mechanical, and protocol-specific requirements.
  • Set up and manage lab infrastructure and test equipment; develop automated bench test scripts and procedures.
  • Perform pre-silicon emulation on FPGA platforms and lead silicon validation, characterization, and ATE vs system correlation activities.
  • Review customer and internal system schematics/layouts and engage with customers/partners to capture custom requirements for validation.
  • Work with procurement and manufacturing to produce evaluation and qualification hardware and support early customers.
  • Coordinate with design, verification, and test/product teams to debug chips and support release to production.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and demonstrable experience:

  • 8+ years of systems hardware development and debug experience with digital, multi-gigabit, and high-frequency, low-noise analog interfaces.
  • Deep knowledge of signal integrity and power integrity design and analysis practices.
  • Familiarity with at least two high-speed electrical interfaces/protocols (examples: USB3+, PCIe 2/3, ThunderBolt, DisplayPort, HDMI, SATA/SAS, Ethernet, LPDDR4/5, GMSL).
  • Experience with inter-chip protocols (UART, I2C, I3C, SPI, I2S, PWM).
  • Microcontroller and FPGA development experience; familiarity with Verilog and FPGA-based emulation.
  • Software development and debugging in C, C++, Python or similar scripting languages; ability to develop test scripts that control lab equipment.
  • Hands-on experience with test equipment: oscilloscopes, sampling scopes, BERT (including CDR), protocol analyzers, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, TDRs, and ATE systems.
  • Experience creating and simulating wired-link models and making tradeoffs; strong practical understanding of protocol test infrastructure.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across design, verification, and test functions.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience in automotive or space product qualification and mass-production testing.
  • Practical understanding of mechanical and thermal considerations for boards and packages.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required; Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) preferred. Degrees in closely related technical fields are acceptable where equivalent experience supports the role.
