System Software Engineering Intern, GPU - 2027

Role Summary

Internship on the GPU Software team focused on system software and performance. Work includes profiling game engines and improving GPU performance for cloud and silicon targets.

This role involves hands-on work with profiling tools, performance tuning across pre-silicon and post-silicon stages, and collaboration with engineers working on graphics stacks.

Experience Level

Entry-level - Internship (students pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees)

Responsibilities

Primary tasks the intern will perform:

  • Profile game engines (for example UE5) to identify performance bottlenecks and opportunities for optimization.
  • Integrate and use profiling frameworks to improve game performance on cloud-based GPUs.
  • Perform GPU performance profiling and tuning in both pre-silicon and post-silicon environments.
  • Work with engineering teams to reproduce, analyze, and resolve system-level performance issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; followed by useful extras.

  • Must-have: Hands-on technical experience with C and C++, plus scripting (Perl or Python).
  • Must-have: Experience with Graphics Rendering APIs such as DirectX 11/12.
  • Must-have: Experience with complex system-level debugging and performance analysis.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with computer system architecture concepts (caches, buses, memory controllers, DMA).
  • Nice-to-have: Understanding of game engines and large-scale code profiling.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with virtualization (e.g., KVM), virtual machines, and Docker containers.

Education Requirements

Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in an engineering or computer science related discipline (university student status required for internship candidacy).
