Job Title

System Software Engineer, Profiler - GPU

Role Summary

Develop and maintain GPU performance foundation libraries and Nsight tooling to enable performance analysis, debugging, and optimization of GPU applications. Work with hardware architecture teams to implement high-fidelity hardware event and counter support, test frameworks, and emulation-based verification.

Experience Level

Mid-level. See Education Requirements for the employer's specified years-of-experience guidance.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include designing, implementing, testing, and documenting low-level performance tooling and validation infrastructure.

  • Design, develop, and maintain GPU performance foundation libraries for Nsight tools focused on hardware events and counters.
  • Create and run GPU assembly tests and validation suites.
  • Build and maintain test validation frameworks (primarily CUDA and GPU assembly).
  • Use emulators and simulators to debug and verify instruction events and behavior.
  • Document tooling use cases, data processing workflows, and validation results to support architectural exploration.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred skills listed separately.

  • Proficient in C and C++ and experienced with scripting (Python).
  • Experience with low-level assembly code and instruction-level debugging.
  • Solid understanding of hardware pipelines and execution-unit instruction pipelines.
  • Knowledge of hardware–software co-design and performance analysis on accelerators.
  • Experience developing and testing on simulators or emulators.
  • Strong problem-solving ability and proven collaboration and communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: CUDA/OpenCL, graphics APIs (DirectX12, Vulkan, OpenGL, Metal), DL frameworks (PyTorch, JAX), prior developer-tools or driver development experience, and prior GPU performance analysis work.

Education Requirements

B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience) with ~5+ years of relevant experience; or M.S. with ~2+ years of relevant experience; or Ph.D. Equivalent industry experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
