System Software Engineer (Embedded)
Role Summary
Work on the Embedded Software team building system-level software for the Cerebras Wafer Scale Engine (WSE). The team owns microcontroller firmware, wafer-level monitoring logic, Linux BSP and platform layers, administrative services, and system observability.
The role spans embedded systems, platform engineering, and distributed system enablement: build administrative services that connect system software to cluster orchestration, collaborate with hardware and ASIC teams, and improve reliability and operability at scale.
Experience Level
Mid-level — expected experience: 5+ years building production-quality software in C++ or Go.
Responsibilities
Deliver software and platform components that enable reliable operation and observability of the WSE across deployment environments.
- Develop administrative software connecting system-level software to cluster-level control and orchestration.
- Provide and extend Linux BSP support and platform components for system reliability and maintainability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, plan milestones, and deliver implementations.
- Diagnose system-level issues with datacenter operations and debug teams; root-cause failures and implement fixes.
- Partner with hardware and ASIC teams to design and implement monitoring and wafer-level telemetry software.
- Improve system reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability across the embedded stack.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and cross-team technical planning.
Requirements
Core qualifications and technical skills required and preferred for the role.
- Must-have: 5+ years building production-quality software in C++ or Go.
- Must-have: Solid understanding of embedded systems fundamentals and hardware–software interactions.
- Must-have: Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments and delivering production software.
- Must-have: Experience with Linux platform development and BSP-level work (userland and platform integration).
- Nice-to-have: Exposure to distributed systems, cluster-level orchestration, or datacenter environments.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Linux kernel concepts, device drivers, or BSP layers.
- Nice-to-have: Experience debugging hardware/software interactions using logic analyzers, JTAG, or profiling/tracing frameworks.
- Nice-to-have: Experience contributing to system monitoring, observability tooling, or hardware-level telemetry pipelines.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is stated as the minimum. A Master’s degree in those fields is listed as preferred. (No mention of certifications or explicit "or equivalent experience" language.)
