Job Title
System Signal/Power Integrity Engineer
Role Summary
Work on system-level signal and power integrity for high-data-rate SerDes applications (up to 400G). Lead measurement-simulation correlation, modeling, and lab-based debug across silicon, package, and PCB domains.
Collaborate with package, PCB and silicon teams to define SI/PI requirements, perform pre- and post-layout simulations, and deliver validated models and documentation to internal and customer teams.
Experience Level
Senior β the role requires substantial experience (see Education Requirements for degree + years guidance).
Responsibilities
Primary duties include analysis, modeling, measurement, and cross-team coordination to ensure signal and power integrity for high-speed systems.
- Support high-data-rate SerDes system design and debug (up to 400G).
- Perform system-level SI/PI design trade-offs, pre-layout and post-layout modeling, and simulation.
- Develop 3D/2.5D/2D EM models and run field-solver simulations (e.g., HFSS/SIWave); assess model accuracy and trade-offs.
- Run circuit and link-level simulations (e.g., Keysight ADS) and statistical/bit-by-bit SerDes simulations.
- Design and execute high-frequency measurements (VNA/TDR 50+ GHz), capture high-fidelity lab data, and correlate with simulations.
- Evaluate PCB/package materials, laminates, connectors, and PDN solutions for system performance.
- Document and deliver SI/PI models, reports, and requirements to internal teams and customers.
- Support customer analysis and debug efforts; communicate complex results clearly in reports and presentations.
- Manage multiple projects and track deliverables and timelines.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience needed to perform the role; nice-to-have items are listed separately.
- Proven experience in signal integrity for high-speed digital applications, including transmission-line and electromagnetic-field theory.
- Experience with EM field solvers and model development (Ansys HFSS, SIWave, Q3D or equivalent).
- Experience with circuit and link simulation tools (Keysight ADS).
- Hands-on measurement experience with VNA, TDR (50+ GHz), sampling and real-time oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers; ability to capture and analyze lab data.
- Knowledge of SerDes metrics and analysis: insertion/return loss, crosstalk, BER, jitter, statistical eye diagrams, phase noise, and jitter sensitivity.
- Power integrity skills: PDN impedance analysis, ultra-low impedance measurements, SMT capacitor behavior, and PDN simulation tools (CPA/SI-Wave).
- Experience collaborating with package and PCB engineers and translating system requirements into package/PCB constraints and deliverables.
- Strong numerical analysis and measurement-simulation correlation skills; ability to determine appropriate model fidelity for design decisions.
Nice-to-have:
- Matlab, Cadence APD/Allegro, Polar, Q3D, Linux, Keysight AEL.
- Familiarity with photonics/optical channel impairments (CWDM, OMA, chromatic dispersion, four-wave mixing).
Education Requirements
BS with 12+ years, MS with 10+ years, or PhD with 7+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering or Physics.
