Job Title

Display Panel Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and deliver thin-film transistor (TFT) pixel and panel architectures for Apple products. The role leads panel-level modeling, simulation, layout, on-panel IC design, and the development of automation and simulation workflows to shorten design iterations and improve model fidelity.

Experience Level

Senior — minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver end-to-end TFT pixel and panel designs, validate performance, and provide technical leadership for simulation and automation.

  • Scope and define TFT panel architecture and pixel designs for rigid and flexible substrates.
  • Perform device design, modeling, simulation, and electrical/optical characterization.
  • Create physical layout and perform parasitic RC extraction for panels.
  • Design and validate on-panel integrated circuits (gate/column drivers and related display electronics).
  • Develop and maintain design automation for simulation, measurement, and data-analysis workflows.
  • Establish simulation methodology, best practices, and higher-fidelity models for the panel design team.
  • Perform failure mode analysis, root-cause investigations, and problem resolution.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with process, optics, touch, mechanical, and external manufacturing vendors; support international business travel as required.

Requirements

Core technical skills and hands-on experience required; preferred skills listed separately.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience working on display panels or related semiconductor/display device development.
  • Hands-on experience creating 2D physical layouts in CAD tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys Laker, or equivalent, including design-rule verification and parasitic RC extraction.
  • Hands-on circuit simulation experience with SPICE-class simulators (Spectre, HSPICE, or equivalent), including device model setup and interpretation of results.
  • Understanding of TFT, OLED, and panel processes and their impact on device and panel performance.

Nice-to-have

  • Direct design ownership of OLED or LCD display products that reached high-volume production.
  • Experience in display touch and related electronics.
  • Experience measuring and characterizing IV/CV of TFT or OLED devices; characterizing panel optical and electrical performance.
  • Experience in gate/column driver IC and other display electronics design.
  • Experience building repeatable automation for simulation, measurement, and data-analysis flows (for example, Python-driven SPICE sweeps, layout scripting, parametric extraction).
  • Effective and judicious use of AI-assisted tools to accelerate workflows, with awareness of when deterministic verification is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's degree (BS) required. Preferred: an advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical Engineering or related fields such as thin‑film devices, display circuits, or semiconductor device physics. The posting pairs this education expectation with substantial industry experience (minimum 10 years).

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay range for this role: $184,700 to $324,800 (annual). Total compensation may include restricted stock unit awards, discretionary bonuses, and other benefits such as medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, employee stock purchase options, and education reimbursement.
