System Firmware Technical Engineer (1 yr contract)

Role Summary

Member of the Discrete GPU Platform Firmware Operations group responsible for participating in the end-to-end firmware architecture lifecycle. Drive enablement of platform-centric features across AMD products with a focus on embedded firmware and graphics/multimedia drivers.

One-year contract based in Markham, ON with a hybrid work arrangement. The role acts as the firmware point of contact for SOC programs and coordinates cross-functional technical efforts.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include representing firmware in cross-organizational efforts, coordinating debugging, and enabling platform features.

• Serve as firmware representative for the SOC program in cross-organizational meetings.
• Act as firmware Point of Contact (PoC) and drive technical discussions across firmware teams.
• Coordinate and drive debugging of critical-severity firmware defects and issues.
• Serve as firmware PoC for Kicker SKUs and for engagements with Customer Engineering teams.
• Review and evaluate requests to add new requirements after the program plan exit phase.
• Collaborate with embedded firmware and graphics/multimedia driver teams to enable platform-centric features.
• Influence firmware architecture and system integration decisions across teams.

Requirements

Required technical skills and experience to perform the role; items listed as "Nice-to-have" are desirable but not mandatory.

• Must-have: Demonstrated experience across software, firmware, and hardware development lifecycles from architecture through validation and delivery.
• Must-have: Strong understanding of embedded systems, SoC/platform architecture, and complex system integration.
• Must-have: Proficiency with low-level hardware interfaces, communication protocols, and firmware–hardware interactions.
• Must-have: Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives, drive issue resolution, and coordinate debugging of critical defects.
• Must-have: Experience with virtualization technologies, including SR-IOV and related resource partitioning/isolation frameworks.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with graphics and multimedia driver development and platform enablement.
• Nice-to-have: Experience defining and implementing secure platform architectures focused on reliability, scalability, and performance.
• Nice-to-have: Knowledge of power management, memory architecture, subsystem optimization, and performance tuning.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (as stated in the posting).
