System Firmware Technical Engineer (1-year contract)
Role Summary
Member of the Discrete GPU Platform Firmware Operations group responsible for the end-to-end firmware architecture lifecycle and enabling platform-centric features across AMD products, focusing on embedded firmware and graphics/multimedia drivers. This is a 1-year temporary contract based in Markham, ON.
Experience Level
Mid-level / Mid-Career. No explicit years of experience specified; expects engineers with practical experience in firmware, software, and hardware development lifecycles.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Serve as the firmware representative for the SOC program in cross-organizational meetings.
- Act as the firmware point of contact (PoC) and drive technical discussions across firmware teams.
- Drive and coordinate debugging of critical firmware-centric defects and issues.
- Serve as firmware PoC for Kicker SKUs and engagements with Customer Engineering teams.
- Review and assess requests to add new requirements after program plan exit phase.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Experience across software, firmware, and hardware development lifecycles from architecture through validation and product delivery.
- Technical leadership and architectural expertise in software, firmware, SoC, and IP design.
- Deep understanding of embedded systems, platform architecture, and system integration.
- Proficiency with low-level hardware interfaces and communication protocols and firmware–hardware interactions.
- Knowledge of power management, memory architecture, subsystem optimization, and performance tuning.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience defining and implementing secure platform architectures focused on reliability and scalability.
- Experience with virtualization technologies, including SR-IOV and resource partitioning/isolation frameworks.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives and influence architecture decisions.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
