System Architect — Advanced Memory System Architecture (DMTS/SMTS)

Role Summary

Work with Micron's system architecture team to define and evaluate next-generation memory and storage subsystem architectures for AI, server, and mobile systems. Focus on system-level modeling, trade‑off analysis, and proposing architectures that optimize power and performance.

Use simulation, modeling, and data-driven analysis to identify bottlenecks and demonstrate benefits and tradeoffs of proposed solutions. Leverage software and scripting (including AI-supported workflows) to accelerate evaluation.

Responsibilities

The role covers system-level architecture definition, modeling, and evaluation across software and hardware layers. Key responsibilities include:

• Deliver architectures and solutions to optimize power and performance of next‑generation memory and storage subsystems.
• Work with design and system teams to identify system requirements, find bottlenecks, and propose novel solutions for diverse applications.
• Perform system‑level simulations and open/closed‑loop performance analysis to compare architectures against existing designs.
• Develop models of controllers, components, memory devices, interconnects, and processors.
• Capture, benchmark, and analyze application memory and storage access patterns.
• Analyze system behavior from OS and driver layers down to hardware and firmware controllers.
• Craft, model, and evaluate proposed solutions to quantify benefits and tradeoffs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and professional attributes, followed by desirable skills.

• Must-have: Strong exposure to computer architecture analysis and design tradeoffs.
• Must-have: Experience with large‑scale server systems, with emphasis on memory and storage subsystems.
• Must-have: Experience evaluating architectures for large/sophisticated blocks and measuring system‑level impact.
• Must-have: Proficiency in C/C++ and familiarity with the C++ Standard Template Library (STL).
• Must-have: Deep knowledge of architecture tradeoff analysis and modeling methodologies and tools.
• Must-have: Exposure to software development practices; strong problem solving, communication, organization, and the ability to work independently and in teams.
• Nice-to-have: Python and SystemC experience.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with memory/storage controller architecture and protocols (DDR, NVDIMM).
• Nice-to-have: Exposure to OS memory management and familiarity with DRAM and NAND memory systems.
