System and Chip Design Solutions Engineer

Role Summary

Join TSMC's System and Chip Design Solutions Development Division (SCDSD) as part of the digital implementation team. The team integrates advanced process technology with product-like design content to validate performance, power, and area (PPA) and to develop implementation flows and methodologies.

The division performs technology benchmarking, system-level testchip architecture, full FE/BE implementation, CAD/EDA flow development, and provides technical support to leading customers. The team is distributed across Hsinchu (Taiwan), San Jose (U.S.), and Nanjing (China).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include designing, implementing, validating, and supporting product-like test chips and related flows to qualify new process technologies and enable customer adoption.

  • Perform technology benchmarks and develop design methodologies to evaluate PPA and DTCO opportunities.
  • Define system-level architectures for test chips and drive system design and yield-learning activities.
  • Implement product-like test chips (RTL to GDS) and resolve flow and design issues discovered during implementation.
  • Develop and maintain BE/FE implementation flows, CAD utilities, and signoff methodologies.
  • Support customers with technical consulting, on-site debugging, and tool/utility development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve test coverage, DFT/diagnosis methods, and silicon correlation.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for hands-on implementation and flow development. Nice-to-have items are listed separately.

  • Practical experience in digital implementation; familiarity with at least one of the design stages (FE or BE).
  • Experience with system design, RTL coding, synthesis, verification, and DFT/MBIST.
  • Back-end implementation experience: floorplan, placement, CTS, routing, power network design, timing and power analysis, physical verification.
  • Linux proficiency for development and flow automation.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve issues across RTL-to-GDS flow and to collaborate on yield learning.
  • Nice-to-have: scripting/programming skills and familiarity with EDA algorithms or CAD/EDA development.
