Synthesis Engineer, Sr Lead
QualcommJob Title
Synthesis Engineer, Sr Lead
Role Summary
Senior synthesis engineer responsible for RTL-to-gates implementation, optimization, and verification of ASIC/SoC blocks. Works with design, verification, validation, software and systems teams to deliver production-ready hardware that meets power, performance, area, and quality targets.
Experience Level
Senior level. Preferred background is 5+ years in hardware engineering; minimum expectations in the posting include 3+ years with a Bachelor's (less experience required with advanced degrees).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities focus on synthesis, implementation, validation, and production bring-up.
- Perform RTL-to-gates synthesis and implement designs with attention to power, performance, and area trade-offs.
- Run and analyze synthesis, timing, and power flows; iterate constraints and RTL to meet signoff criteria.
- Integrate features and collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, verification, software, architecture) to meet requirements and schedules.
- Conduct simulations and analyses to validate design correctness and performance.
- Support bring-up and manufacturing characterization; improve yield, test time, and product quality.
- Use EDA and lab tools to debug, measure, and validate hardware implementations.
- Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation for hardware projects.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, practical experience, and interpersonal abilities.
- Proven hardware engineering experience working on synthesis and implementation flows (synthesis tools, STA, timing closure).
- Experience with RTL (Verilog/VHDL), constraints, and optimization for area, power, and timing.
- Familiarity with EDA simulation and verification tools and methodologies.
- Practical experience using lab and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF tools) for hardware validation.
- Experience with schematic capture and circuit simulation tools is a plus.
- Technical leadership experience (mentoring or leading small teams) and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to document results and interact with cross-functional teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field with 3+ years of hardware engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 2+ years' experience; OR PhD in those fields with 1+ year of experience. Preferred: Master's degree in a related field.
