Job Title

Switch Quality Engineer

Role Summary

Lead supplier and manufacturing quality activities for AMD switch products used in AI, cloud and high-performance computing. Partner with design, manufacturing, testing, system integrators, and suppliers to ensure product quality from NPI through production and field support.

Drive data-driven quality improvements, failure analysis, and manufacturing readiness to improve reliability and reduce customer-impacting issues.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting requests demonstrated experience in supplier quality, hardware manufacturing, root-cause analysis, and NPI support; no explicit years-of-experience requirement was provided.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include coordinating cross-functional quality activities, driving corrective actions, and monitoring product quality metrics.

  • Lead supplier and internal teams (design, assembly, manufacturing, testing) to achieve qualified product releases and maintain production quality.
  • Review test plans, qualification results, DFx, xFMEA, NUDD, and supplier failure analyses.
  • Manage issue resolution, part approval, process control, and quality assurance during NPI and production ramp.
  • Monitor factory and field nonconformance metrics (yield, first-pass yield, replacement rates) and drive process improvements.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and corrective actions using 8D, 5-Why, statistical analysis, and industry-standard methods.
  • Collect and analyze large datasets and telemetry to identify trends and recommend reliability and process improvements.
  • Drive debug and resolution of hardware and firmware defects affecting switches.
  • Define supplier build-reporting expectations, quality metrics, yield monitoring, and escalation procedures.
  • Manage customer and field escalations as the primary quality interface, ensuring containment and long-term resolution.
  • Travel to supplier sites for audits, investigations, and manufacturing quality support as required.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Proven experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or product quality for networking or complex hardware products.
  • Must-have: Strong root-cause analysis skills and experience with 8D, 5-Why, statistical process control, and corrective action processes.
  • Must-have: Experience supporting NPI, manufacturing ramp, qualification reviews, process validation, and deployment of quality control plans.
  • Must-have: Ability to analyze large datasets and telemetry to drive data-driven decisions (experience with Power BI, Tableau, JIRA or similar tools).
  • Must-have: Experience working with ODMs/CMs and suppliers to define manufacturing quality requirements and drive accountability.
  • Nice-to-have: Technical familiarity with switch architectures, merchant silicon (Broadcom, NVIDIA, Marvell, or equivalent), high-speed optics, rack-scale networking, or hyperscale/cloud environments.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with reliability qualification methods (HALT, HASS, environmental stress testing, accelerated life testing) and failure analysis labs.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience defining supplier scorecards, KPI dashboards, and escalation frameworks.
  • Other: Strong communication and leadership skills, ability to influence across functions and with executive stakeholders.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (as stated). No alternative "equivalent experience" language was specified in the posting.
