Supplier Quality Engineer

Role Summary

The Supplier Quality Engineer ensures subcontractors meet Semtech's quality, performance and reliability requirements for assembly and test operations. The role leads supplier audits, corrective action closure, supplier performance monitoring and continuous improvement activities.

Reports to the Supplier Quality Engineering Manager and works cross-functionally with engineering, operations and suppliers to resolve quality issues and sustain supplier performance.

Experience Level

Mid-level — minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in quality, process, product, assembly or test engineering within semiconductor assembly and test.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include supplier quality assurance, audits, issue resolution and continuous improvement.

• Plan and conduct supplier audits (risk, preventive, comprehensive) and maintain customized audit checklists.
• Identify assembly-critical defects and auditable items from audit findings and customer requirements.
• Lead supplier corrective actions (8D), validate root-cause analyses and drive timely closure with task forces.
• Analyze supplier product quality data, trends and performance; maintain supplier scorecards and databases.
• Facilitate cross-functional meetings, supplier quarterly business reviews and quality focus meetings.
• Support disposition of non-conforming material and review supplier process changes and customer information.
• Apply quality tools (SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, GRR, PPAP) and design of experiments to investigate and improve processes.
• Coach and provide guidance to other quality staff and supplier teams; escalate high-risk issues to corporate QA/SQE.
• Participate in NPI quality checks to ensure smooth transition to production.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, domain experience, and location requirements.

• Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in quality, quality control, process, product, assembly or test engineering in semiconductor assembly & test (QFN, DFN, WLCSP, wafer bumping, SOIC, SOT, FC, COL).
• Hands-on skills with statistical and problem-solving tools (e.g., JMP), 8D problem solving, and conducting DoE.
• Knowledge of end-to-end assembly and test processing from incoming silicon to final packaging and test; familiarity with ISO 9000, ISO 14000, IATF16949, AEC standards and RoHS/EMS directives.
• Proven project management, prioritization and accountability with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem-solving and quality leadership; ability to drive investigations and corrective actions to completion.
• Effective verbal and written communication in English and the local language; strong organization and presentation skills; proficient with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Must reside in Penang; travel expected under 10%.
• Nice-to-have: supervisory or managing experience; background in process or assembly engineering for integrated circuits.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree (BS) required in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.
