Role Summary
Design engineer on imec USA’s R&D team in Kissimmee, FL developing superconducting electronic devices, circuits, and enabling technologies for energy-efficient computing and AI systems. Work spans schematic and layout design, simulation, verification, and device characterization within an international, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, simulation, verification, and collaboration across sites.
- Design superconducting circuit schematics and layouts using Cadence Virtuoso.
- Develop or maintain automation scripts and tools to generate schematics and layouts.
- Work with PCells and hierarchical layouts; perform DRC and LVS and other design verification tasks.
- Simulate analog and superconducting circuits using Cadence Spectre and related simulation tools.
- Model superconducting and electromagnetic structures using Ansys HFSS, Cadence Clarity, or similar EM tools.
- Support device and circuit characterization and evaluation in the lab.
- Participate in design reviews and prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across imec’s U.S. and European R&D organizations and contribute to publications and conferences.
Requirements
Required technical skills and attributes, plus a short list of preferred experience.
- Solid understanding of electronics and circuit design fundamentals.
- Experience with analog circuit simulation tools such as Cadence Spectre or PSpice.
- Familiarity with microwave and electromagnetic modeling tools (e.g., Ansys HFSS, Cadence Clarity).
- Familiarity with Cadence Virtuoso layout, PCells, hierarchical layouts, and design verification (DRC/LVS).
- Scripting or programming experience (Python, MATLAB, or similar) to support automation and data analysis.
- Familiarity with materials science and/or solid-state physics concepts relevant to superconducting devices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in international, multidisciplinary teams.
- Self-driven, hands-on, pragmatic approach suitable for an R&D environment.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience working with superconducting devices or circuits.
- Experience designing or testing passive RF circuits (transmission lines, resonators).
- Familiarity with semiconductor fabrication, mask design, or PDK development.
- Experience with layout automation or SKILL in Cadence Virtuoso is a plus.
- Prior experience in semiconductor or advanced-technology R&D environments.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field is required. A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field is considered a plus.
