Strip Test Senior/Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Responsible for ownership, maintenance, and optimization of automated strip-testing platforms (Cohu SH5300A, FH1200) to ensure high uptime and efficient operation. Works with process and product engineering and external vendors to qualify new equipment and resolve technical issues.
Experience Level
Senior — typically 5+ years' relevant experience in test engineering, with hands-on exposure to strip handlers or probers.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Own, sustain, and optimize Cohu SH5300A and FH1200 automated strip handlers.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to maximize uptime and equipment life.
- Perform rapid root-cause analysis on mechanical, electrical, servo, pneumatic, and motion-control failures.
- Ensure testing instruments and strip handlers meet calibration and industry tolerance standards.
- Support setup, qualification, and production release of new or customized equipment.
- Collaborate with process and product engineering to optimize equipment kinematics for throughput and yield.
- Work with automation/component vendors on design modifications, spare-part sourcing, and technical issue resolution.
- Enforce workplace safety protocols including PPE, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and electrical safety.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in test engineering, with practical experience on strip handlers or probers.
- Proficiency with test instruments such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- Programming skills in Python, C++, or LabVIEW for test automation and data handling.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and perform failure analysis and statistical data analysis.
- Hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and motion-control systems.
- Experience coordinating with vendors for equipment modifications and spare parts.
- Adherence to and enforcement of safety procedures (PPE, LOTO).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from a recognized university.
