Standard Cell Layout Engineer

Role Summary

Design physical layouts for logic standard cells for advanced semiconductor process nodes as part of the Standard Cell Design team. Deliver efficient, verified layouts, develop automation, and collaborate with circuit and mask designers across global development sites to meet performance, reliability, and schedule targets.

This role provides exposure to advanced IC design practices and opportunities for professional growth.

Experience Level

Entry-level / Early-career. No specific years of experience stated; suitable for candidates beginning an ASIC/layout engineering career.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Design and implement physical layouts for standard logic cells using Cadence Virtuoso and related tools.
• Develop and maintain layout automation and optimization scripts (SKILL, Python).
• Perform layout verification including DRC, LVS, and ERC and resolve issues found.
• Collaborate with circuit designers and mask layout designers to meet electrical, performance, and reliability requirements.
• Maintain layout databases and use design management software to track designs.
• Identify and resolve PDK- and design-related issues and document solutions.
• Coordinate and communicate status with globally distributed engineering teams (United States, Taiwan, India).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience:

• Foundational understanding of CMOS technology and IC design principles.
• Experience with layout tools such as Cadence Virtuoso.
• Proficiency in scripting or automation (SKILL, Python) for layout tasks.
• Ability to perform layout verification (DRC, LVS, ERC) and debug issues.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with advanced process technologies (FinFET, GAA) and parasitics/reliability considerations.

Education Requirements

Associate's degree or technical certificate in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is mentioned.
