Job Title

Staff Yield Engineer — Technology Development Foundry Engineering

Role Summary

The Staff Yield Engineer will guide foundry customers through product development from testing and validation to NPI and High Volume Manufacturing (HVM). You will oversee wafer manufacturing transitions, drive yield improvement projects, develop yield models, and act as the technical interface between foundry customers and internal teams (Process Integration, Device, Defect, Lab, Product Integration).

Experience Level

Senior. Typical experience expectations vary by degree (see Education Requirements) but generally require multiple years of semiconductor yield engineering and root-cause analysis experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the yield point of contact during foundry product development from design through initial HVM.
  • Define yield goals and roadmaps for customer silicon in collaboration with internal foundry stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain yield models and projections to identify parametric and defective loss components.
  • Analyze yield signals for logic, SRAM, and other device types and lead root-cause investigations.
  • Establish correlations between inline metrics and end-of-line yield for better process control and projection.
  • Track process and non-process changepoints and incorporate them into yield prediction models.
  • Engage with Product Integration and Device teams on execution activities such as skew split planning and DOE.
  • Identify and implement operational improvements to optimize foundry product development workflows.

Requirements

Minimum technical and professional requirements (education details are listed under Education Requirements):

  • Proven experience in semiconductor yield engineering and yield analysis, including post-silicon yield signal interpretation and root-causing.
  • Experience with yield projection, pareto analysis, and constructing yield roadmaps.
  • Ability to analyze inline, e-test and SORT data and to identify failure mechanisms and inline indicators.
  • Strong collaboration skills working with Process Integration, Device, Defect, Lab, and Product Integration teams and with external foundry customers.
  • Practical skills in leading investigations, DOE planning, and driving solutions to systematic yield losses.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; customer-facing orientation.
  • Nice-to-have: direct foundry team experience, exposure to fabless product development, knowledge of inline inspection methods, electrical test structures, and SORT programs.

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications vary by degree: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or other relevant engineering/physical science plus 6+ years relevant work experience; OR Master’s degree in those fields plus 4+ years; OR PhD in those fields plus 2+ years of industry experience. Experience must include semiconductor yield engineering or post-silicon yield signal analysis and root-causing.
