Job Title

Staff Yield Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Foundry Yield Engineering team to drive yield improvement, support new product introduction and manufacturing transfers, and resolve yield and quality issues with external foundry partners and internal cross-functional teams.

The role focuses on data-driven analysis of yield, defect, electrical test, and wafer-level data to enable successful product ramp and continuous manufacturing improvement.

Experience Level

Senior - staff-level role; no specific years of experience stated.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include yield analysis, NPI support, excursion management, data analytics, and technical leadership with foundries and internal teams.

  • Analyze manufacturing yield, defect, inline, electrical test, and wafer-sort data to identify yield-loss mechanisms.
  • Lead yield-improvement actions and collaborate with foundry partners and internal engineering teams.
  • Support new product introduction, manufacturing transfer, qualification, safe launch, and production ramp activities; track readiness and risks.
  • Perform root-cause analysis for low-yield events and abnormal defect patterns; recommend containment and corrective actions.
  • Develop reusable analysis methods, dashboards, and automated reporting to increase engineering efficiency.
  • Evaluate and support deployment of yield-analysis tools; explore automation and AI/ML-assisted approaches.
  • Serve as technical interface for foundries; lead technical interlocks and communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Maintain engineering documentation, analysis methodologies, and best practices.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • Solid understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, device fundamentals, and manufacturing/yield engineering.
  • Experience in semiconductor yield engineering, process engineering, process integration, product engineering, or foundry engineering.
  • Strong manufacturing and yield data analysis experience including inline, electrical test, wafer sort, defect, and wafer-level data.
  • Strong statistical problem-solving and root-cause-analysis skills.
  • Experience with statistical/data-analysis tools such as JMP, Spotfire, Exensio/PDF, or equivalent.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with external manufacturing partners and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with semiconductor foundries or outsourced wafer manufacturing.
  • Experience with NPI, manufacturing transfer, qualification, safe launch, and production ramp.
  • Knowledge of SPC, Cp/Cpk, D0/defect-density analysis, wafer-map analysis, correlation analysis, and statistical data mining.
  • Experience developing automated data-analysis or reporting workflows; exposure to AI/ML-assisted analytics is a plus.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Semiconductor Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
