Staff Wafer-level Testing Engineer (Operations & Process)
LumilensJob Title
Staff Wafer-level Testing Engineer (Operations & Process)
Role Summary
Lead operational execution and process control for wafer-level testing to enable robust, scalable production of photonic devices. Work with internal engineering teams and external manufacturing partners to qualify test processes, drive yield improvement, and ensure production readiness.
Experience Level
Senior-level β minimum 5 years of relevant semiconductor or wafer-level testing experience.
Responsibilities
Key duties include ownership of test processes, production execution, data-driven improvements, and cross-functional coordination.
- Own and continuously improve wafer-level test processes; lead setup, qualification, and operation of automated wafer probers, optical alignment systems, and ATE.
- Drive day-to-day wafer-level test operations; monitor production performance and execute against production and quality plans.
- Develop, optimize, and qualify test flows, conditions, process parameters, and operating procedures for new and existing products.
- Establish process specifications, control plans, operating windows, and monitoring methods to minimize variation.
- Monitor yield and defect performance; lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions to improve yield.
- Analyze test data to identify trends, process shifts, and systematic failures; define metrics and monitoring mechanisms.
- Maintain process documentation: specifications, work instructions, control plans, and qualification reports.
- Reduce cycle time and improve throughput, yield, and manufacturing cost while maintaining quality.
- Lead structured improvement activities using DOE, SPC, Six Sigma, and other data-driven methods.
- Collaborate with product engineering, quality, supply chain, industrial engineering, and program management for product qualification and production ramp.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, experience, and personal capabilities; nice-to-have items noted.
- Minimum 5 years in semiconductor wafer-level testing, wafer sort, test process engineering, manufacturing operations, or related roles in fabs, OSATs, or silicon photonics environments.
- Hands-on experience with automated wafer probers, optical alignment systems, and ATE for electrical and photonic testing.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills and experience analyzing test data to drive corrective actions.
- Proficiency with data analysis and yield tools such as JMP, Spotfire, Python, or R for yield modeling and SPC.
- Experience in test flow development, process control, yield management, and production test methodologies.
- Strong cross-functional communication and project management skills to drive technical issues to closure.
- Nice-to-have: experience in photonics, silicon photonics, optical devices, or advanced semiconductor packaging.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Microelectronics, Physics, Optical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, or a closely related discipline. (The posting specifies a bachelor's degree; equivalent-experience language is not stated.)
