Staff Verification Engineer

Role Summary

Experienced verification engineer responsible for block- and unit-level verification of Arm Cortex-A CPU microarchitecture within the Chandler CPU verification team. The role focuses on developing verification environments, executing and debugging tests, and ensuring delivery quality for one or more functional blocks.

Experience Level

Senior — typically 5+ years of pre-silicon verification experience (role specifies a minimum of 5 years).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for delivering high-quality verification for CPU microarchitecture blocks.

• Develop SystemVerilog UVM and/or formal verification environments and tests for block-level functional verification.
• Build and maintain detailed verification plans and test suites.
• Generate and run test cases on logic simulation models and analyse results.
• Debug functional RTL errors using simulation and debug tools; apply deep understanding of architecture and RTL design.
• Define and implement functional and statistical coverage; improve testbench infrastructure to achieve coverage closure.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience.

• Minimum 5 years of pre-silicon verification experience focused on CPU microarchitecture.
• CPU microarchitecture experience including front-end pipeline components (fetch, decode, issue, implement, commit).
• Experience verifying units using simulation and/or formal verification methods.
• Strong software engineering skills: object-oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience with functional coverage-driven verification methodologies.

Nice-to-have:

• Deep CPU core microarchitecture knowledge (fetch engine, branch prediction, out-of-order execution, register renaming, reservation stations, processor pipelines).
• Knowledge of CPU memory subsystem: high-performance caches, cache coherence, virtual memory, and address translation.
• Advanced SystemVerilog and UVM expertise for building flexible, reusable testbenches.
• Experience with software engineering best practices (design patterns, profiling, unit testing) and multiple programming languages.
• Experience with continuous improvement, cross-team communication, and delivering impactful results.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical/Computer Engineering; GPA of 3.0 or higher is stated. (No equivalent-experience language is provided in the source.)
