Job Title

Staff Thermal Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

The Staff Thermal Analysis Engineer will model and analyze thermal behavior of SoCs and multichip systems to identify hotspots and reduce temperature variation. You will collaborate with IP, SoC design, package, power integrity and systems teams to define thermal objectives, provide mitigation strategies, and develop guidelines for floorplanning and packaging.

Experience Level

Senior (Staff). The posting requests a minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in SoC performance and thermal analysis.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include steady-state and transient thermal analysis and cross-team technical guidance.

  • Model thermal performance of SoCs with emphasis on on-die hotspots for monolithic and multichip/3DIC designs.
  • Develop guidelines to optimize SoC floorplanning and packaging to reduce temperature variation.
  • Work with system-level thermal tools and partners to define strategies that reduce temperature excursions in Arm SoC designs.
  • Identify, model and quantify thermal benefits of system-level approaches; report findings to design and systems teams.
  • Collaborate with physical design, power integrity and package teams to integrate thermal considerations into designs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; optional items are listed as nice-to-have.

  • Must-have: Minimum 2–3 years experience in SoC performance modeling and thermal analysis.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with thermal analysis tools such as Cadence Celsius, Ansys RedHawk‑SCET or Ansys Icepak.
  • Must-have: Experience modeling both steady-state and transient thermal behavior and quantifying thermal trade-offs.
  • Must-have: Strong communication and collaboration skills; initiative and ability to share findings across teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with mobile and/or laptop cooling solutions.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. Background in computer architecture and thermal performance is expected.
